The United Kingdom Armed Forces Rugby Football Club is looking for a new Director of Operations.
The UKAF RFC acts as the pinnacle of Armed Forces Rugby, based on a modus operandi not dissimilar to the British and Irish Lions, whereby the best of the players from all three services, backed by committed and expert support staff and officials, come together over the course of a 4-year cycle in order to achieve the guiding intent of winning both the women’s and men’s International Defence Rugby Competition (IDRC). The club is a registered charity and an association of the UK Armed Forces Sports Board
Director of Operations Role:
- A voting member of the UKAF RFC Executive Committee.
- Provide leadership of the Operations sub-committee to ensure it functions effectively.
- Deliver the goals and the club’s strategic priorities as set by the Chairman
- Deliver activity and services within an agreed budget and financial framework.
- Act as the UKAF RFC Data Controller ensuring the organisation’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Responsibilities detailed on the Information Commissioner’s Office website[1].
- Responsible for Safety Management within UKAF Rugby sponsoring the Safety management plan and its outputs.
- Oversee tri-Service Events co-ordination.
- Oversee all internal and external PR activities.
- Oversee the procurement and management of UKAF branded kit.
- Providing improved quality of experience for players, coaches, officials and spectators.
- Oversee the UKAF RFC contracts and provide advice to the Executive Committee and Trustee Board on performance and renewals.
The Person
- A background and passion for rugby is preferable.
- Able to commit to UKAF Rugby, and capable of supporting the committee through successful performance of the role of Director of Operations.
- Knowledge of the sporting landscape within the Armed Forces is an advantage as will be an experience of working with or in a sports club, preferably in a rugby environment.
- Proven skills to provide leadership, management and strategic guidance of a high profile charitable and/or sports organisation.
- Personal integrity and resilience, demonstrable independence and other attitudes consistent with the expectations of a high profile role.
- Able to lead the delivery of a co-ordinated programme of elite sporting events in the UK and at international competitions.
- Willing and able to liaise widely across all Services (in person as well as by other means) in pursuit of the UKAF RFC agenda.
- Ideally, but not exclusively, a serving member of the Armed Forces (including reserves).
- Personable and able to represent UKAF Rugby in engagement with stakeholders.
It is a volunteer role and the successful candidate will be expected to commit to a 4 year tenure.

The Selection Process

Applications should include sufficient detail to explain an individual’s suitability for the role (personal statements and covering letters are encouraged). Written applications will be considered by a panel formed from members of the Executive Committee of UKAF RFC; candidates may be invited to interview to constitute a second round of the selection process if deemed appropriate by the panel.
