Gareth Smith is a prop for the British Army and the UK Armed Forces Men’s XV, serving as a Colour Sergeant. He is one of UKAF’s most capped players, with 17 appearances from 2017 to the 2025 Remembrance Game against Germany.

Smith started every match at the 2019 International Defence Rugby Competition in Japan, scoring from a catch-and-drive to put UKAF 12-5 up in the semi-final win over France. Four years later he played in all five matches at IDRC 2023 in France, ending with a 24-12 bronze-medal win over New Zealand.

He has since stepped back from playing but remains part of the UKAF set-up as kit man for the Under-23s.
