Steffan “Steff” Rees was a Royal Navy Able Seaman from Aberystwyth who played for Aberystwyth RFC, the Royal Navy and the UK Armed Forces Men’s XV.
He won three UKAF caps in 2023: at the first Military vs Cancer match at Kingston Park, Newcastle, and against Tonga and Spain at the International Defence Rugby Competition in France. Steff died during the tournament in August 2023. His teammates retired the number 12 shirt for the semi-final against Fiji, and Royal Navy Rugby remembered him as “a dear friend” and a valued teammate.
His memory is honoured each year through the Steffan Rees Memorial Trophy, sponsored by the Royal Naval Association and presented to the Player of the Match at the UKAF Remembrance Game.
